What we do
Our Reach & Targeted Communities
Our roots are firmly centered within the community of Katlehong, yet our reach is national with aspirations to be a leading African entity that is recognised globally. Our core target is the ordinary waste picker, the community member as well as all society formations.
We have identified Corporate as our strategic partners, manufacturers, consumer goods entities, alcohol, and soft drink producers as well as entities that aim to reduce the millions of tons of waste in our environment. Our key beneficiaries are youth, school going learners, adult women and men who are waste pickers and their immediate families. But above all, our environment is the ultimate beneficiary from all the efforts.
Reduce
Minimising waste that often leads to landfills that release harmful gases that end up polluting the soil & water.
Re-use
Turning would-be waste into means of reduction on greenhouse gas emissions to address global climate change.
Recycle
Converting waste materials into new & viable materials for environmental preservation.
Disposal
Advocating for the safe process of eliminating waste through collection, transportation, treatment & the disposal of waste.
Recovery
Optimising waste treatment by allowing waste to be converted for a specific purpose, either to generate energy or obtain new raw materials.
Waste Management
When it comes to effective waste management, we understand that it takes a community to achieve build an eco-friendly environment for all. So, ours has always been an ‘each one, teach one’ approach that translates into a positive ripple effect of informed and engaged community members.
Through our work, we continue to advocate for the usage of proper waste management practices whilst simultaneously protecting public health by preventing the spread of disease and pollution.
Education
The majority of environmental challenges we experience due to scattered waste are a result of the ignorance around waste management in our communities. At K1 Foundation, we know how far an informed community can go in applying themselves on effective waste management.
For this reason, we are playing a crucial role in promoting effective recycling practices across various townships and rural areas across South Africa. Ensuring that our people make informed and sound decisions around waste management and contribute to a more sustainable future.
Awareness
Awareness is the cornerstone of comprehension and the appreciation of what proper waste management or the lack of it thereof can achieve. At K1 Foundation, we are intentional about raising the kind of awareness that directly influences individual behaviours that ultimately spill over into societal practices.
We continue to lay a transformative foundation where our awareness initiatives move from knowledge to actionable steps towards a more sustainable and healthy future for all.
